It’s a tremendous understatement to say that Kay Stamer has been very busy improving the Arts in Greene County! In addition to her duties as Executive Director of the Greene County Council on the Arts since 1982, she is program coordinator for the Arts Council’s Youth ArtsReach after-school workshops, and has also served to create and further the Arts-in-Education partnerships with schools in Greene, Columbia and Schoharie Counties. She oversees the County Initiative Program, which re-grants County funds to major Greene County cultural organizations. She managed the cultural side of the Riverside Market at the historic Catskill Point for ten years prior to the Market’s move to Main Street, Catskill. She was a founding member of the Arts Council in 1975, and served on its Board of Directors through 1980.
Moreover, Stamer continues to foster vibrant Arts communities that future generations will enjoy. She has served as a Capital Region Advocacy Coordinator for the NYS Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts Cultural Blueprints initiative. She is on the steering committee of the ArtsNYS Coalition, a statewide arts advocacy organization. With an emphasis on partnerships and collaborations, she has helped develop several innovative community revitalization program such as Catskill’s Façade Restoration and Streetscape programs working with Norman Mintz and the Preservation League of New York, and the County’s historic Catskill Point project.
Her background includes professional theatre as an Equity actress, the owner of her own interior design firm for over 20 years, owner of an antique and specialty gift shop, and a brief stint in the financial markets as a trainer and registered representative.
The Greene County Chamber of Commerce is privileged to honor Kay Stamer with its inaugural Distinguished Service Award.
