After over 25 years in PR and Promotions (most recently as a partner at David Zwirner contemporary art gallery in NYC, London and Hong Kong) Julia Joern brings her passion for creativity, community, and cuisine to the hamlet of Round Top in the town of Cairo, NY. The proud new owner of the former Hartmann’s Kaffeehaus building, she has turned weekend getaways to her Greene County home into the next stage in her continuing career.
With renovations underway at Round Top Productions’ new home at 1507 Hearts Content Road, Julia Joern is welcoming visitors to pop-up events featuring local makers, products, and culinary experts. The commissary kitchen is currently being put to great use by Potters Table Bakery, producing whole-grain, herbed and seasoned flatbreads, fruit and nut wafers, seeded crisps, handmade marshmallows and seasonal granolas.
The Future Home of Henning’s Test Kitchen
Norwegian chef Henning Nordanger of Henning’s Local in Sullivan County will open Henning’s Local Test Kitchen once renovations are completed on the dining room, cafe, bar, and a separate community kitchen space for cooking classes and food-related workshops. Like that of his current restaurant, the menu at Henning’s Local Test Kitchen will feature his own take on American comfort food (with a bit of a Scandinavian twist) and source ingredients from local farms throughout the Catskills and Hudson Valley, with much coming from Greene County.
The revitalized space will be totally ADA compliant with its newly restored interior, updated restroom facilities, expanded access, and an deck for enjoyable outdoor dining in the warmer months.
For the holidays, Henning has collaborated with Marta from Potters Table Bakery to create a traditional German seasonal bread. ‘Stollen Heart’ is a lovingly-crafted, flavorful loaf that perfectly compliments your favorite warming beverage.
Bringing Babette’s Feast to Private Homes and Event Spaces
For those looking for something truly memorable for their next gathering of 12 to 24, Round Top Productions is teaming up with Henning to bring Babette’s Feast to your table. Enjoy a memorable and delectable evening screening this Oscar-winning 1987 Danish movie and sharing in Babette’s remarkable meal.
Set in 19th-century Denmark, on Babette’s menu: Potage à la Tortue (turtle soup) served with Amontillado sherry; Blinis Demidoff (buckwheat pancakes with caviar and sour cream) served with Veuve Cliquot champagne; Cailles en Sarcophage (quail in puff pastry shell with foie gras and truffle sauce) served with Clos de Vougeot Pinot Noir; endive salad; Savarin au Rhum avec des Figues et Fruit Glacée (rum sponge cake with figs and candied cherries) served with Champagne; assorted cheeses and fruits served with Sauternes; coffee with vieux marc Grande Champagne cognac.
In the short time since Julia made Greene County her full-time home, she has immersed herself in our growing creative economy – connecting, welcoming and promoting makers throughout the region to celebrate the unique communities and lifestyle opportunities across our Catskill Mountain, Rural Valley, and Historic Hudson River Towns. Her Instagram presence is a joy to follow @round_top_recommends.
