Marc Chodock is passionate about welcoming a new generation of year-round urban explorers to the beautiful Great Northern Catskill Mountains. As managing partner of Escape Hospitality, he promotes destination communities in the town of Hunter to an ever-growing number of creative people making their way to the area. His newest property at 7883 Main Street (in the heart of the village) is a place to eat-in or take-away, sample local fare, or even log-on to a video conference while enjoying a hand-crafted coffee.
Originally from Indiana, Marc earned his BSE in Finance from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, as well as a BAS in Biomedical Science in 2000. He honed his business chops in NYC at leading private equity firms before establishing Escape Hospitality in Hunter in 2015. One of his first ventures in Greene County was the re-invention, renovation, and re-launch of highly successful Scribner’s Catskill Lodge and world-class eatery PROSPECT. A couple of years ago, Marc and his partners recognized an opportunity serving the need for more food & beverage options in the community, and the idea for FELLOW was born.
A property was subsequently identified but needed serious restoration and renovation. Over a million dollars was invested in extensive renovations including lifting the building out of the flood plain. The project also received the assistance of Quantum Fund financing obtained through the Greene County Economic Development Corporation to facilitate the purchase of fixtures, furniture, equipment and inventory.
Providing ‘Quality Food for Quality Fellows’ became the mantra, through farm-fresh ingredients, locally sourced meats & cheeses, and ‘baked-fresh-daily’ breads, sweet rolls and cookies.
FELLOW opened for business at the end of 2020, facing all the challenges of operational guidelines and requirements of the pandemic. They are currently serving from Friday through Monday – 8AM to 3PM, and plan to expand both hours and days over the coming months. Patrons can order food and beverage items for take away at fellowmountaincafe.com and even grab some memorabilia merchandise designed with a distinctly retro Catskill Mountain look and feel.
Pent-up demand for driveable get-away destinations will have a significant impact on the health and vibrance of our Greene County communities, and places like the FELLOW Café greatly benefit the re-development of our towns and villages.
