Field Goods Moves to Larger Warehouse in Athens, NY

Field Goods, a food subscription service that delivers weekly farm-fresh produce to 350 locations between the Saratoga and Yonkers areas, has recently moved to a larger warehouse in Athens, NY.

The 18,000 square-foot warehouse at 740 Schoharie Turnpike is more than four times larger than Field Goods’ previous location. About 2,300 people are Field Goods subscribers and it is estimated that the company has spent $2 million purchasing goods from farmers in the Hudson Valley area over a three-year period.

Field Goods’ mission is to open the floodgates for the flow of local food by delivering food of superior taste, freshness, and nutritional value to as many people as they can find and to be a good partner to local farmers.

Field Goods was founded by Donna Williams, who came to the area after a career on Wall Street. Doing a study on agriculture for the Greene County Industrial Development Authority (IDA), the IDA gave here the business idea for a distribution network to connect farmers in the region directly to consumers, thereby increasing markets and regularizing their incomes.

Field Goods’ expanded warehouse was a beer distributorship, and therefore has a considerable amount of cold storage for use in the winter months. The business started through the Greene County Microenterprise Assistance Program, and the County recently assisted Field Goods with a Quantum Fund loan to assist with the purchase of the new facility.
