For over 25 years, Dori Fackler has dreamed of opening a wine bar in a small town, on a historic Main Street and in a historic building. When a space became available on Main Street, Catskill in 2024, Dori made her dreams a reality.
With a selection of craft beer, craft cider, vermouth, light bites and of course, wine, Chemistry Wine Bar first opened its doors in June 2024. The name, Dori says, comes from the chemistry of people and the chemistry of wine, and is also a tribute to her late father, John P. Fackler, a renowned inorganic chemist.
“I love wine, and I like experiencing it with people,” Dori said. “I love when a person comes in and finds a wine they just love.”
Having spent much of her career in business operations and data analytics, Dori wanted to fulfill her dream of owning her own business.
When she came upon the rental listing for 354 Main Street, Dori had never been to Catskill before. But she quickly fell in love and decided to relocate and open her business here.
“When this came up last year, it was perfect,” she said. 
The business recently held a party for its 1-year anniversary, which was well attended.
“Everyone loves the place,” she said. “I’ve got some good regulars and it’s been really good.”
In the fall, Dori hopes to add afternoon tea to the menu.
Chemistry Wine Bar offers over 20 wines by the glass from all over the world, ranging from sweet white to big, dry reds. The wines are typically sourced from smaller wineries with minimal intervention processes.
Stop by to check it out, Wednesdays & Thursdays from 5 – 9 p.m., Fridays & Saturdays from 4:30 – 10 p.m., and Sundays from 2 – 6 p.m.
