Dave Liatti knows one fundamental truth about most humans – We love to gather in welcoming, familiar places to eat, drink, share songs, tell stories, and sometimes just to watch and listen to other people. This was the concept behind British Public Houses as far back as the 16th century when neighborhood patrons began referring to these establishments as ‘Our Local’.
The model for creating a successful ‘Local’ basically boils down to a few simple steps:

Liatti and his partners made this model work splendidly in Brooklyn at 61 Local cited as “An inviting, sustainably-focused space in which locals not only commune, but also appreciate the edible achievements of some of their most talented compatriots”. The ‘Local’ theme instills a sense of community in both producers and consumers through tasty foods, craft beverages, community & private events, live music & comedy, short film screenings and basically anything that provides the neighborhood with a fun place to hang out.
Expanding upstate to Greene County in July of 2015 started with creating a destination within a destination.
The Windham Local Public House lives inside a renovated former national bank branch building opposite the WAJ Central School on Main Street (NYS 23) with a view of the Windham Mountain Slopes. Windham Mountain Resort is a four-season destination for hiking, skiing, fishing, golf, outdoor adventure, and mountain biking that brings thousands of visitors every month to the Catskill Mountain Village.
Local Products, Local Sources, Local Comforts
The Windham Local opens its doors 7 days a week at 7AM. Patrons savor hand-crafted coffees and teas and a New American, Eclectic Comfort Food breakfast and lunch menu featuring scratch-made delectables from locally-sourced ingredients.
The Local is furnished in rustic comfort, perfect for both enjoying the company of others and steeling away for a more private conversation. The look and feel of the interior was achieved with the on-going help of local maker, Andrew Varga. His ForeverGreen creations utilize ‘Uniquely-Catskills’ materials (recovered and rendered).
The Reasons to Stay (and Come Back)
The adult-beverage crowd starts arriving at lunch for on-tap offerings by West Kill Brewing and bottled selections from no fewer than a dozen select New York State breweries. The farm-to-table dishes on the menu are certain to satisfy anyone from the most dedicated carnivore to the most fervent vegan (with many tasty gluten-free options along the way).
Fridays and Saturdays, the Local serves dinner from 6PM-9PM, with great live music starting at 7PM. The first Friday of every month celebrates The Windham Noise – a community jam session open to all, and sure to feature some truly awesome visiting talent. Genres trend to the Acoustic and Harmonic, across Blues, Jazz, Folk, Rock, and World music.
